As if losing his wife to a long battle with cancer wasn’t traumatic enough, 80-year-old Kenneth Smith was facing ending up destitute because of medical bills that exceeded $100,000. After his wife, Helen’s death, Smith returned to selling bags of kindling on the roadside for $5 each to make extra money.
